What is an Ahnentafel?

It is the Germanic numbering system for organizing genealogical information.

FEMALE ancestors have ODD numbers. The number of an individual's mother is twice the number of the individual plus one.

MALE ancestors have EVEN numbers. The number of an individual's father is twice the number of the individual.

How to fill out the 10-Generation Ahnentafel Chart

1. Start by writing your name in the center circle. You are #1.
2. Enter your father's name on the left of the chart in the space marked #2.
   His father will be #4. His grandfather will be #8, etc.
3. Enter your mother's name on the right of the chart in the space marked #3.
   Her father will be #6 and her mother will be #7, etc.
4. Continue to carefully fill out the remaining generations.
5. Research until the chart is completed to your satisfaction!

All spaces are marked with their relationship to you up to the 8th generation. Example:

• 3G-GM = great-great-great grand MOTHER
• 2G-GF = great-great grand FATHER
